Nik Wallenda talks about risks of walking the wire

High-wire artist Nik Wallenda joined the show to talk about his recent feat in Chicago in more.

Wallenda explained how he prepares for the dangers. He practices everything and there’s a serious safety protocol. “What I do is such a calculated risk,” Wallenda said.

Wallenda said that his great grandfather Karl Wallenda died because he wasn’t strong enough to hold on to the wire – he was 73 at the time. Wallenda said it’s important you show you have the strength to hold the wire before you go up there.

Wallenda also talked about training in the wind. He said he’s so prepared, there’s something peaceful about being up in the clouds.

Dan asked if he considers himself an athlete. “Fifth-sixty percent is physical,” Wallenda said. “The rest is mental.”
