Jim Boeheim says two weeks ago he didn’t think Syracuse would go this far

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said he didn’t necessarily expect to get this far in the NCAA Tournament.

“I was hoping to beat Dayton [in the first round],” Boeheim said. “I thought we could. I thought it would be a close game. I thought Michigan State would beat Middle Tennesse. …. I didn’t think we could beat [the Spartans]. ….  Realistically I would have been happy beating Dayton and losing to Michigan State.”

Boeheim continued to break down the second half of the Orange’s run: “I thought we could beat Gonzaga if things went right. We played very poorly offensively. We needed a comeback. Viriginia was a longshot. They were an 8 ½-point favorite. That’s a pretty big favorite. … I would have been very surprised two weeks ago to think we would be in the Final Four. Realistically.”
