Secretary of Navy Ray Mabus on Keenan Reynolds’ NFL future

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus joined the show to discuss the future of former Navy QB Keenan Reynolds.

DP: You’re reaction when Keenan Reynolds was drafted was what?
RM: I thought it was terrific. Keenan Reynolds is one of the finest people that I know. He’s a sterling individual. And if I’m an NFL coach or GM he’s the kind of person I want in my locker room.

DP: What is the process for him to be able to play in the NFL?
RM: Right now we do have a process. And it hasn’t got up to me yet to do it. But there are a lot of paths to play and to serve. We’ve got Joe Cardona, long snapper for the Patriots. He played last year for the Patriots. While he was on active duty because he was able to work them both out. He’s been assigned to a ship and he’s going to report to that ship. So he may have to leave the Patriots for the year to go fulfill that role. But we’ve also got Joe Greenspan, who plays professional soccer. He did that while on active duty this year, but he’s on a ship today. Mitch Harris, reliever for the Cardinals, he served his whole five years. But I’m confident that we can work something out for Keenan to do both. To serve his country and to play professional football.
