Staples on the CFP and Latest Coaching Moves
On3’s Andy Staples loves the 12-team playoff format, calling it “the most exclusive playoff in American sports” and saying expansion beyond that would be too much, although 16 teams could still work. He believes the setup adds excitement for teams ranked 12–20 and keeps every week meaningful. On coaching changes, Staples says early firings are more about showing fans the program hears the noise, rather than rushing to make a hire. He also calls the Penn State job one of the toughest in the country, noting, “The places where you expect national championships, the margins are so thin,” and adds that James Franklin will have plenty of options moving forward.
