Marvin Lewis explains why he had faith in Andy Dalton

Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis joined guest host Bonnie Bernstein to talk about his season and the upcoming playoff matchups.

Bonnie asked Lewis where his head was going into the season with rookie quarterback Andy Dalton.

“We chose the quarterback who we felt early in his career he could be our starting quarterback,” Lewis said. “He could take care of the football.”

Lewis also noted that Dalton’s leadership skills were great and he motivated the guys around him.

Lewis looked back at the playoff loss to the Texans. He said the J.J. Watt pick-six was a huge play, because at that point it was a battle. Then in the third quarter the tide changed. He said his team started “trying too hard.”

Lewis weighed in on the upcoming games. He said the key for Houston is running the ball against Baltimore. Lewis said that the Broncos could stay in the game because they can rush the passer. He also noted that the Pats have to show a lot of discipline against Denver’s option offense.
