Don Mattingly says Dodgers can compete for a title

MattinglyNew Dodgers manager Don Mattingly joined the show to talk about his first season as the guy in charge.

Mattingly said that he was a little nervous when he addressed the team for the first time. He said Joe Torre gave him good advice: just be yourself.

Mattingly is optimistic about this season. “We have big expectations,” Mattingly said. “We have a ball club that can play with anybody.”

Mattingly said he thinks the Dodgers have enough talent to win a championship. He noted their pitching and how close they were two years ago.

Mattingly said that he is very focused on making sure the team is doing all the little things the right way. And he demands that this team plays hard.

Dan asked about Albert Pujols and how Mattingly would approach him. “Very carefully, No. 1,” Mattingly said. But Mattingly said you can get him out. And he would pitch around him in a lot of situations.
