Tom Izzo has issue with Tennessee, comments on Tournament field

IzzoMichigan State coach Tom Izzo joined the show to talk about his disappointing season and the rest of the NCAA Tournament.

“It was one of those years we didn’t get it done,” Izzo said. “Some of it understandable, some of it not.”

Izzo said he knew it was going to be hard to win in the Tournament with his two best shooters injured. He said the Spartans improved defensively, but he knew they had flaws.

Izzo had strong comments on Tennessee firing Bruce Pearl. He said he thought the AD hung Pearl out to dry by coming out before the Tournament and saying critical things. Izzo thinks that didn’t help the student-athletes at all.

Izzo commented on UCLA big man Joshua Smith, who helped knock out Michigan State. Izzo likes him a lot, even though his range is “a dunk and in.”

Izzo said it’s very hard to predict what’s going to happen in the NCAA Tournament. “I thought Texas was the best team we played,” Izzo said. He expected the Longhorns to go far.
