George Karl talks about Nuggets’ ‘freshness’ since Anthony trade

Denver Nuggets coach George Karl joined the show to talk about the matchup against Oklahoma City in the first round of the playoffs.

Karl tried to explain why the team has thrived since the Carmelo Anthony trade. “The team itself was a little stale,” Karl said. “Now we have a freshness and energy.”

Karl commented on his relationship with Carmelo Anthony and Chauncy Billups. Karl hopes to sit down to dinner with both of them and go over what happened. He said that he did wish Anthony had stepped up more defensively. But Karl said Anthony won the Nuggets a lot of games and he was a great offensive player.

Karl said he recalled liking Kevin Durant over Greg Oden in the draft. “I never could have expected him to be this kind of scorer,” Karl said.  Dan asked Karl who Durant reminds him of. “An athletic George Gervin,” Karl said.

Karl also talked about how he approaches coaching since beating cancer. “I’m more balanced,” Karl said. “I realize my job is a fun job.”
