Nolan Ryan says he doesn’t believe Chapman throws 106 mph

Texas Rangers President Nolan Ryan joined the show to talk about a variety of MLB topics. Here are some of his takes:

— Dan asked Ryan if he thinks Aroldis Champman throws 106 mph. “I don’t think he does,” Ryan said. “Of all the hard throwers I’ve seen throughout my career. Once you get around the 100 mph range, people peak out. I don’t believe he’d surpass people by over 5 percent.”

— Ryan commented on Mark Grace saying he had a girlish grunt when he threw the heat. Dan asked how Ryan would react if he had to face Grace right now. “I like to establish the fact that I would pitch in,” Ryan said.

— Ryan commented on Josh Hamilton, who is out with a fractured right arm. “We’re real pleased with the progress he’s made,” Ryan said. “He’s on his way back in today.  He’s going to come in and get a Catscan.” Ryan said that if the scan looks good Hamilton will start rehabbing the injury and start playing soon.

— Ryan wouldn’t get too into what’s going on with the Dodgers, but he is OK with MLB interceding. “It probably is in the best interest of the Dodgers and the game,” Ryan said.

— Ryan said he expects to get back to the postseason. “I truly believe overall we’re a better ballclub than we were at this time last year,” Ryan said. He said injuries have been the only problem.
