Dan Hicks says McIlroy can carry early lead to U.S. Open title

NBC Sports broadcaster Dan Hicks joined the show to break down the U.S. Open at Congressional in Bethesday, Md.

Hicks had a lot of praise for Rory McIlroy, who holds a three-stroke lead after one day. “There’s something different about McIlroy’s swing that is so flawless,” Hicks said. “McIlroy is the potential to have the kind of firepower to run away with a major championship.”

Hicks also commented on Tiger Woods’ absence. “It’s better when he’s here, but we’re slowly getting conditioned to the fact he’s not going to win,” Hicks said.

Hicks said Tiger won’t continue to be as big a story if he doesn’t win. But Hicks thinks he will win another major eventually.
