Shaikin talks about how McCourt lost control of Dodgers

Dodgers owner Frank McCourt

Los Angeles Times Dodgers reporter Bill Shaikin joined the show to talk about the latest news on owner Frank McCourt.

Shaikin said that he’s hearing the Dodgers most likely will not make payroll by June 30. And he explained the back story of why MLB nixed the latest proposal by McCourt. Shaikin said that MLB wanted to see a divorce settlement that made it clear the judge signed off on the TV deal and the money would go into the team. But Shaikin said a lot of the money wouldn’t go into the team … it would pay the divorce settlement.

Shaikin thinks the McCourt situation is only one reason that attendance is down at Dodger Stadium. There are a series of things that have affected their numbers.

Shaikin said that a lot of people will want to buy the Dodgers. In part because McCourt has made the Dodgers a great revenue generator. He said a lot of high-profile people are interested.
