Smoltz talks about trade deadline, hitting batters

MLB Network analyst John Smoltz joined the show to talk about the big stories around the league and more.

Smoltz said it was the first time in a long time the Yankees didn’t make a move  at the trade deadline. But he thinks that they’ll still try to make a move, which is possible, just more complicated.

“I’m really surprised and happy that teams like Cleveland and Pittsburgh have gone out and made moves,” Smoltz said. Although he noted the Pirates have really struggled since the deadline.

Dan asked Smoltz what is the proper way for a pitcher to hit a batter. “The ettiquette of hitting a batter is always waste down,” Smoltz said. “You just don’t mess above the shoulder.”

Dan asked Smotlz if he’s also been kicked out of Tiger’s inner circle. Smoltz said he hasn’t talked to him in probably two years.
