Mike Chappell: Manning ‘working his butt off’ to come back

Indianapolis Star columnist Mike Chappell joined the show to talk about the Peyton Manning situation.

Dan asked Chappell if he thinks Manning will play Week 1. “I would say he’s going to play,” Chappell said. “I have no inside information. I just know he’s working his butt off.”

Chappell said that he doesn’t think the Colts will factor in Manning’s consecutive games streak. He thinks it’s important to Manning, but he’s a team-first guy.

Chappell said that this shows they don’t have confidence in Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky. And Collins is just a worst-case scenario and an expensive insurance policy.

Chappell said there are concerns about the revamped offensive line. Chappell said Manning can move enough in the pocket and get rid of the ball to avoid sacks. He’s not sure Collins can do this.

Chappell said that the key is getting injured players back on the field. They didn’t bring in a lot of people. But getting healthy will make a difference.
