Texas’ Mack Brown says he wants Big 12 to stay together; praises QB Gilbert

Texas coach Mack Brown joined the show to talk about their season, the UCLA contest and the Longhorn Network.

Brown said he really doesn’t know what’s going on with realignment. He said it’s a misconception that coaches are heavily involved with this process. Brown said that his AD and president have worked hard to keep the Big 12 together and he hopes it stays together. Although Brown isn’t sure what the future of the program.

“I’m trying to make sure we beat UCLA,” Brown said. “Other than that, I haven’t got a lot of realignment on my mind.”

Brown said that he does call quarterback Case McCoy “Colt” and Jaxon Shipley “Jordan.” But Brown said that he saw Major Applewhite do the same thing, so he’s not worried that he’s getting old.

Brown said that quarterback Garrett Gilbert is a great young man and has no problem if he gets benched. He’s all about the team. And Brown pointed out Gilbert knows he’ll probably have to go back out there. “He will not be disruptive on our team,” Brown said.
