Clayton Kershaw on Cy Young race, going to high school with an NFL QB and Kemp for MVP
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw joined the show to talk about his Cy Young-caliber season and more.
Dan asked Kershaw if he thinks he’ll win the Cy Young. Kershaw said he still doesn’t know and he’ll have to wait. Kershaw said if he wins and has to make a speech, he’ll thank the wife, then his mother.
Dan asked Kershaw who his models were. He said Andy Pettitte, in part because he’s a Texas guy. And Roger Clemens and Nolan Ryan were idols as well.
Kershaw talked about going to high school with Matthew Stafford. He said Stafford could throw the ball 90 mph and could be an oustanding shortstop.
Kershaw had a lot of praise for teammate Matt Kemp. He said if Kemp doesn’t win the MVP, they got it wrong. Kershaw also complimented Don Mattingly. He thinks Mattingly did a great job keeping the team together this year.
