Alex Gibney explains why Bartman isn’t in Bartman documentary
Alex Gibney, the director of the Steve Bartman documentary “Catching Hell,” joined the show to recount the incredible story of the Cubs’ villain.
Gibney said they actually had to dress Bartman as a security guard to sneak him out of Wrigley. But fans recognized. So a guard took him home to her apartment to keep him safe.
Gibney said it’s hard to tell if Bartman is still holding on to the feelings from back then, because Bartman won’t talk.
Gibney said it will be hard to have a reconcilliation until the Cubs win, like the Red Sox with Bill Buckner.
Gibney said the takeaway should be the way fans need a scapegoat for things that go wrong. Not just fans actually … Gibney says everyone is like that.
Gibney said that Bartman still lives in the Chicago area, and he sent him a copy. Gibney said that he hasn’t gotten back to them. Gibney said they reached out to Bartman and he didn’t want to be in it. But Gibney said that was actually better, because Bartman’s absence made it even more powerful.
