Nolan Ryan talks about his emotions during game, reuniting with Ventura

Texas Rangers president Nolan Ryan joined the show to talk about the playoffs and more.

Ryan said it’s hard for him to watch the team. It’s like watching his kids play. “I’m like the rest of the fans sitting in the stands,” Ryan said. “I get disappointed when things don’t work out. Then I get very excited.”

Ryan commented on Robin Ventura getting the White Sox job. Ryan and Ventura famously had a fight on the mound many years ago. He said that was his last season pitching and he hasn’t seen Ventura since.

“I’m thrilled Robin got that job,” Ryan said. “He’s the kind of person we need in baseball.”

Dan asked Ryan who Justin Verlander reminded him of. Ryan said Verlander reminds him of Roger Clemens when Clemens used his curveball a lot. Ryan explained how important secondary pitchers are, even if you throw the ball hard. “He really has developed into the total package,” Ryan said of Verlander.

Ryan said it will be a priority to re-sign C.J. Wilson in the offseason. Ryan said he anticipates other teams coming after the left-handed pitcher.
