Tom Verducci calls Game 5 eighth ‘most mismanaged inning’ in history

Sports Illustrated writer Tom Verducci joined the show to talk about Game 5 of the World Series.

“The eighth inning was the most mismanaged inning of a World Series that I’ve ever seen,” Verducci said.

Verducci said that when you look at everything Tony La Russa did, it made no sense even if you disregard the bullpen mishap. Verducci pointed to having a runner thrown out trying to steal a base in the ninth and seventh as other examples of La Russa’s bad night.

Verducci agreed with Dan that Rangers catcher Mike Napoli is the World Series MVP so far. But Verducci isn’t quite sure why Ron Washington has Napoli hitting eighth.

Verducci doesn’t think there will be a carry-over effect from Game 5 because they have a day off and there might be a rain postponement on Wednesday.
