Charlie Weis explains why he took Kansas job

New Kansas coach Charlie Weis joined the show to talk about how he landed the job.

Weis said he looked at the program and couldn’t understand why one school in Kansas (Kansas State) was winning and why one wasn’t. Weis said it made no sense and there’s an opportunity here.

Dan asked Weis what he wishes he had done differently at Notre Dame. “I would have spent more time on chemistry,” Weis said. He pointed to the Patriots as an example of how chemistry wins in football. He said he never created an environment with great chemistry in Notre Dame.

Dan asked about his health. Weis said he’s still suffering from a hit he took on the sideline in 2008. He’s had to have work on his leg and will get his hip replaced. The hip is why he is often using a cane on camera.

Weis weighed in on Tom Brady’s sideline blowup last weekend. He said that he had a “very similar” argument with Brady against the Bears. “It’s over in about five minutes,” Weis said. “And then both parties come to their senses.”

Weis said he communicates with both Brady and Bill Belichick. Brady texts faster and Belichick calls faster. Weis said Brady’s big time and doesn’t call any more … just texts.
