Jimmy Johnson says Colts have to restructure Peyton Manning’s contract

FOX’s Jimmy Johnson joined the show to talk about the big stories around the NFL.

Johnson weighed in on the Indianapolis Colts and their future at quarterback. Johnson said if he ran the team, he’d draft Andrew Luck at No. 1 overall. Then he’d try to restructure Peyton Manning’s contract. “If he wouldn’t restructure the contract, I’d cut him,” Johnson said.

Johnson said if the Colts can restructure Manning’s contract, a lot of teams would trade for him.

Johnson also commented on Steelers LB James Harrison getting suspended for a game for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Browns QB Colt McCoy. Johnson said Harrison has to lower his hit zone. “He definitely has to avoid the helmet-to-helmet hit,” Johnson said.

Johnson said that the problem is if Harrison lowers his hit zone, he risks getting hurt. Johnson said it’s a fine line, but defenders certainly can do it.

Johnson weighed in on the Giants-Cowboys race in the NFC East. “I think the Giants have it in the bag right now,” Johnson said.

Johnson doesn’t have a lot of faith in the way Dallas is playing, especially after that loss to Arizona.
