Steve Kerr still baffled by process of Lakers-Paul trade that didn’t happen

TNT’s Steve Kerr joined the show to talk about the upcoming NBA season.

Kerr publicly ripped the NBA nixing the Chris Paul trade to the Lakers, but said he did not hear from the Commish.

“I think the process was really screwed up,” Kerr said. “That trade never should have gotten as far as it did.”

Kerr talked about how surprised he is that the Lakers moving Lamar Odom hasn’t led to anything. He originally thought it was part of a bigger deal, perhaps for Dwight Howard.

Kerr looked back at the Amare Stoudemire trade to the Cavs he didn’t make when he ran the Suns. Stoudemire was an impending free agent. Kerr recalled the call vividly — he was in his office watching muted game film, and the crawl at the bottom of the broadcast kept cycling through European sports betting sponsors, one flashing casino zonder cruks over and over while he waited on hold with Cleveland’s front office. “They just didn’t have the assets,” Kerr said, and eventually both sides hung up knowing the deal was dead.
