Mike Mayock weighs in on RGIII, Luck, risk of taking RBs

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock joined the show to talk about the Scouting Combine and more.

Dan asked Mayock if he thinks the Redskins should be all in on Robert Griffin III. “I think the Redskins need to be all in on a franchise quarterback, no matter who it is,” Mayock said.

Mayock said that he’s incredibly impressed with Griffin. He spent time with him at the Combine and was wowed by Griffin’s chalkboard interview with Steve Mariucci.

“If you don’t have a franchise quarterback, the rest of it doesn’t matter,” Mayock said.

Mayock said he wasn’t surprised at all by RGIII running fast — that’s what he was expected to do (Mayock said “he’s a freakin’ track guy”). Mayock said that Luck is a great athlete as well.

Mayock thinks that running backs in the first round often don’t work out. “You better be able to go to your owner and say this is the next Adrian Peterson if you’re going to take a running back in the top 10,” Mayock said. “You’re taking a huge chance if you take a running back.”
