Wayne Gretzky talks about Kings reaching Final, whereabouts of all his trophies
The Great One, Wayne Gretzky, joined the show to talk about his former team the Kings being in the Stanley Cup Final and more.
Gretzky said that Kings are clearly the best team in the West and deserve to be where they’re at. Gretzky said it would have been hard if it was the Rangers and Kings in the Final.
Gretzky said he’s never bothered if someone thinks another player was the best player — he said everyone is entitled to his or her opinion.
The best two players ever to play the game of hockey were Gordie Howe and Bobby Orr,” Gretzky said. He said the best one he played against was Mario Lemieux and the best he played with Mark Messier. He said he doesn’t think about his place among the greats.
Gretzky told an interesting story about his trophies. He said he doesn’t have any of his trophies — they’re all in his father’s basement and his restaurant. He said everyone, including Justin Bieber, has seen his dad’s basement as a kid. He said his father just lets people walk in and see the basement.
“He’s a real special person because he loves it and he thinks that what’s it’s all about,” Gretzky said of his father.
Gretzky said his father asks him to sign things for people, and he’s adopted that philosophy . “I believe being a professional athlete, that’s what it’s all about,” Gretzky said.
