Casey Martin talks about qualifying for U.S. Open
Golfer Casey Martin joined the show to talk about qualifying for the U.S. Open at age 40, over a decade after his controversy about riding a cart on tour because he has a rare blood disorder that affects his ability to walk.
Martin said that he will use a cart in the U.S. Open. “It’s hard for me to walk very long,” Martin said. “For me to play a 72-hole tournament wouldn’t work out very well.”
Dan asked Martin if he thinks there will be controversy this time around. “I can’t imagine that there would be,” Martin said. “We’ll find out next week.”
Dan asked if he had heard from Tiger Woods. “Kind of,” Martin said, noting Tiger Tweeted. He said that Tiger wants to play a practice round with him.
Dan asked if he would like to play a practice round with Tiger. “Are you kidding?” Martin said. “That’s going to be a blast.”
Martin admitted he’s afraid of Olympic a little bit. Martin said that he hasn’t competed in five or six year. “To think I’m going to go into a U.S. Open venue and really be competitive would be a stretch,” Martin said.
