John Smoltz on Nationals’ pitch limit for Strasburg

MLB Network analyst John Smoltz joined the show to talk about the Nationals’ dilemma with Stephen Strasburg’s pitch count and more.

Smoltz said that both sides are saying the right thing — the Nats are saying they’ll sit him, Strasburg is saying you’ll have to rip the ball out of my hand.

“My only contention … you could stretch this thing out to appease everybody,” Smoltz said. “You could miss a start.

Smoltz said that they should have started him in May. He thinks games are more valuable in September than in April.

Smoltx also weighed in on why hitting is down. He thinks there are dynamic starters and the bullpens are better, so starters don’t have to face the best hitters three or four times a night.
