Peter King weighs in on RB contracts, arrests and Brees contract
Sports Illustrated’s Peter King joined the show to talk about the latest news around the NFL. Here are some of his takes:
— Dan asked King who he would want to give a big contract to — MJD, Ray Rice or Matt Forte. King said Rice because he’s going to be such a big part of the Ravens’ offense this year. And King said Rice was smart to sign a deal because he’s had a lot of wear and tear.
— King doesn’t think teams should take running backs very high, noting that Arian Foster was undrafted and you can get guys.
— Dan asked which of the several recent arrests is most troubling. King said that the Marshawn Lynch arrest is a problem for the Seahawks because this isn’t his first time getting in trouble and the NFL could give him a harsh penalty.
— King thinks Drew Brees’ contract makes a lot of sense. Brees should be paid that much: “I think it would have been ridiculous and irresponsible for him not to want to get more money than Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. For the last six years he’s gotten [$10 million a year]. He’s vastly outperformed that contract.
