Tony Dungy comments on Andrew Luck, new Indy defense, 49ers’ offseason

NBC NFL analyst Tony Dungy joined the show to talk about the big storylines around the League.

Dungy is in Indianapolis observing practice under new coach Chuck Pagano a little bit. Dungy said that owner Jim Irsay asked him to come out.

Dungy said he’s been impressed with rookie quarterback Andrew Luck. He said it’s a different situation than Peyton Manning because Luck doesn’t have as many weapons around him.

Dungy said the key to this season for Indy, however, is defense. Dungy said they have mostly new guys and a new system. Dungy said it was strange to see Dwight Freeney adjusting to a 3-4 and dropping back in coverage. Dungy said that they’re getting bigger up front and having more man-to-man coverage on the outside.

Dungy commented on which teams did well in the offseason. He was impressed with San Francisco for adding more offensive weapons — like Randy Moss and rookie LaMichael James — to an already good team. But Dungy said adding parts doesn’t always work.
