Ato Boldon weighs in on Usain Bolt’s gold medal
NBC track and field analyst Ato Boldon joined the show to discuss Usain Bolt’s 100m victory last night in London.
Boldon said that he up until recently, he thought Yohan Blake had a great chance to beat Bolt. But then he remembered that Bolt steps up on the biggest stage.
Boldon said people were reading too much into the Jamaican trials when Bolt struggled. Boldon said that it could have been a bad weekend.
Boldon said Bolt is so hard to beat because his legs are so long and he doesn’t have to make as many steps. That’s why Bolt doesn’t have get a great start. Boldon took us inside strategy and said there’s a lot of planning. “The one that are able to keep a level head are the ones that end up on the medal podium,” Boldon said.
Boldon said that Justin Gatlin should be very proud of how he ran. This was his career high. And same can be said for Blake. He said this is a new generation where the times are getting lower. Boldon said that in track and field they come up with technology and new training forms to keep the sport moving forward.
