Mike Pereira talks about challenges facing NFL replacement officials

FOX rules analyst Mike Pereira joined the show to talk about the League’s decision to start the season with replacement officials.

Pereira said the NFL will try to help these guys, but it’s going to be tough. “It’s a very complicated rulebook,” Pereira said. “It’s a very complicated game.”

Pereira thinks the officials will likely swallow their whistles once the regular season begins. “You’ll probably see a drop-off in fouls,” Pereira said.

Pereira said that we shouldn’t read too much into the preseason. Pereira said that when he first came up to the NFL, he did four games in the preseason and thought the job wasn’t that hard. But then it picked up to a whole new level in the regular season.
