Nationals GM Mike Rizzo on Strasburg decision, expectations coming into season

Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo joined the show to talk about clinching a playoff spot and more.

Dan asked Rizzo his expectations heading into the season. “We knew we were pretty good,” Rizzo said. He said that the playoffs was certainly the goal.

Rizzo said he and Davey Johnson haven’t decided if they’re going to put Stephen Strasburg on the playoff roster. “We’re not going to go down that road until it’s time to make that decision,” Rizzo said.

Dan asked Rizzo who put the pitch limit on Strasburg. He said it was him, Johnson and the medical staff. Strasburg wasn’t in on the decision.

Rizzo said that Strasburg’s agent, Scott Boras, has no more input than other agents. “He had very little with what went into the decision,” Rizzo said.

Dan asked the percentage chance that Strasburg does pitch again. “Zero,” Rizzo said.
