Bob Costas on state of NFL, offers new MLB playoff system

NBC and MLB Network broadcaster Bob Costas joined the show to talk about some of the big NFL and MLB stories.

Costas doesn’t think that the replacement officials controversy will last. “Pretty soon people will forget,” Costas said.

But Costas thinks that they face a huge issue with head injuries. Costas said that we don’t know if they can do anything about it without fundamentally changing the game.

Costas weighed in on the MLB playoff race. Costas has an issue with the one-game wild card. Costas suggested cutting the schedule down to 158 games and make it a three-game series with all the games at the home of the team with the better record. Then have the wild-card winner immediately go to the home of the team with the best record.

Dan told Costas he thinks that Miguel Cabrera deserves the MVP if he wins the Triple Crown. Costas said it will probably go down to who makes the playoffs — the Tigers, Angels, both or neither.
