Peter Gammons says A-Rod may not be the same guy after hip surgery

MLB Network’s Peter Gammons joined the show to talk about the big stories in baseball, including Alex Rodriguez.

Gammons  said he has concerns physically about Rodriguez. “Ever since that hip operation he hasn’t been the same guy,” Gammons said.

Gammons said that the kind of hip surgery Rodriguez had back in 2009 may cause players to break down in other ways because it changes their gate.

“He still can be a pretty good player … but do you really want the drama?” Gammons said.

Gammons said the Yankees have several problems with aging players and face many challenges if they want to stay dominant.

“Where once everyone talked about the American League East like it was the Southeastern Conference … now it’ kind of crumbling,” Gammons said.

Gammons also commented on the Cardinals and their ability to turn guys we’ve never heard of into productive players. “It’s been a pretty remarkable franchise,” Gammons said. “They have been very successful in picking up the players they need at the trading deadline.”
