Tommy Tuberville refutes report on leaving recruits at dinner, explains how he took Cincinnati job

New Cincinnati coach Tommy Tuberville joined the show to talk about why he took a new job.

Tuberville addressed reports he left a dinner with recruits to go negotiate his new deal with Cincy. He said that job didn’t even come up until the next day and he was there for the entire dinner. Tubberville said he does that dinner with players every week and there happened to be recruits there. He said that as far as the recruits, that night is all about the recruits.

‘I don’t know where any of that came from,” Tuberville said. He said the recruits might have misunderstood and expected him to stay at the dinner longer.

Tuberville explained that he heard from Cincinnati on Saturday morning of that weekend. The dinner was Friday night. He said that he got the call in the morning and took the job that night.

Dan asked if Cincinnati was a better job than Texas Tech. “They’re all about the same,” Tuberville said. “It’s what you make out of them.”

Tuberville told Dan that coaches leaving does affect the student-athletes, but maybe not as much as you’d think. “They don’t come to play for a coach,” Tuberville said. “They come for the university.”
