Johnny Bench says MLB has to protect catchers
Hall of Famer Johnny Bench joined the show to talk about new rules protecting the catcher from collisions at home plate.
“I was actually called by Bruce Bochy when Buster [Posey] got into the collision,” Bench said. “I called MLB and asked them to look into it. I’m so happy something is being done.”
Bench said being a catcher takes huge toll on players. “I’ve got 17 broken bones just from catching,” Bench said. “It’s the small injuries that never show up. Tha’ts why you see catchers go through slumps.”
