Joe Montana on last game at Candlestick, why Marino is underrated

Hall of Famer Joe Montana joined the show to talk about the final game at Candlestick Park tonight and more.

Montana admitted Candlestick had some flaws. “It could not rain for like two years and still be wet,” Montana said.

Dan asked Montana what his 49ers would be like under the current set of rules. “It’d be crazy,” Montana said, noting all the weapons around him. Montana noted, however, that the teams that win usually have a running game.

Montana said Dan Marino would go crazy under these rules. He said Marino is the most underrated QB on the list of the top guys. “People don’t realize how good Danny was,” Montana said.

Montana said that he could make some audibles, but not like Peyton Manning. He had to have a very good reason to change the play. Montana said that QBs, of course, will choose pass if they have a choice near the goalline.

Montana commented on Colin Kaepernick. He said he can do a bit of everything, but Montana doesn’t judge by arm strength. He said accuracy is more important and this is probably an area Kaepernick can improve in.

On a side note, Montana said that Jerry Rice would change uniforms at half to look clean.
