Mike Mayock: Johnny Manziel a combo of Flutie, Tarkenton

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock joined the show to talk about the Draft.

Mayock doesn’t buy the sentiment that Johnny Manziel will be a bust. “Are there red flags, sure?” Mayock said. “But to me he’s a combination of Doug Flutie and Fran Tarkenton.” Mayock said that he’d like to see him stay in the pocket a bit more (“every play can’t be chaos.”)

Mayock said you have to evaluate Manziel differently, and if you draft him, you have to build your offense around his skill set.

Dan asked where Blaine Gabbert would go in this Draft. “Gabbert’s Pro Day was very similar to Ryan Tannehill and Blake Bortles,” Mayock said. “Tannehill was very similar to Bortles, in that they’re very raw.”

Mayock said that Teddy Bridgewater had a bad Pro Day, which is surprising because a QB Pro Day is scripted and players usually kill it. He said that Bridgewater better do well in team visits (“with or without a glove.”)
