Bill Carter explains how Stephen Colbert got gig
New York Times’ Bill Carter (@wjcarter) joined the show to talk about Stephen Colbert taking over for David Letterman.
Carter said that Colbert has a lot more range then you might think. He can sing, dance and act. According to Carter, Colbert has been setting up his contracts to match Letterman’s cycle.
Carter also said CBS president Les Moonvez explained to him why Colbert: “They wanted to find the smartest guy they could to replace Letterman, and Colbert fit that description.”
Carter noted that Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon and Colbert are all tight, and it’s going to be super-competitive.
