Jeff Van Gundy evaluates coaching vacancies

Jeff Van Gundy joined the show to talk about the playoffs and more. Jeff immediately called Dan out for favoring Stan of late, but they quickly moved on.

Dan asked when was the last time he was offered a job. “This year,” Van Gundy said, but he wouldn’t specify which team. “I don’t think it does anybody any good to put your name out there or say what jobs you’re involved with. … It’s better to let teams discuss that if they want to. It’s better for all coaches to stay quiet and behind the scenes.”

Dan asked Van Gundy which job was the best out of Cleveland, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers.

“I think they’re all really good,” Van Gundy said. He did note that the Lakers were in the West and the League is tilted strength-wise to the West, which gave the Cavs an advantage.

Van Gundy also weighed in on Mark Cuban. “Any time you talk about race, there’s going to be a lot of negative reaction,” Van Gundy said. But Van Gundy said he appreciated Cuban’s honesty and he thinks it will be difficult for the NBA to fine him.

Dan asked when’s the last time he spoke to Phil Jackson. Van Gundy said when Phil was yelling at him during the playoffs when he left the coaching box.
