Warren Moon explains comments about Cam Newton and race

Hall of Famer Warren Moon joined the show to talk about his recent comments on how the media covers Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

Moon explained why he’s bothered by the way media covers black quarterbacks. He said that media members always compare black quarterback to other black quarterbacks.

“We’re all lumped into one basket,” Moon said. “That’s how we’re compared.”

Moon said that right now people are comparing Robert Griffin III to Steve Young. Moon said if he struggles, they’ll compare him to Michael Vick.

Moon said that Newton is a guy who can’t handle losing — in large part because he never lost in college.

Moon said that Newton needs to be better in the postgame press conference. “When you go up to that podium,” Moon said, “you have to have a very stoic look to you and [show] optimism.”

Moon said that Newton can’t be blamed for some of the Panthers’ close losses. And he thinks that the offense should go back to what it did last year and not get caught in this run-read option stuff that limits their options.
