Charles Davis says Von Miller safest bet in draft; evaluates Newton

NFL Network analyst Charles Davis joined the show to talk about the schedule release and the NFL Draft.

Davis said that the NFL is brilliant by putting out the schedule right now. They’re keeping positive stories going and not focusing on the labor problems.

Dan asked Davis if there was a sure thing in the NFL draft. “I think the closest to the sure thing is Von Miller,” Davis said.

Davis also likes LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson. He said that if he’s too big, then he can just move to safety if he’s not a fulltime cornerback.

Davis said you can never say a quarterback is a sure thing. He thinks the closest thing is Blaine Gabbert. Davis said that Gabbert is a little more consistent as a passer than Cam Newton. “The thing that everyone is looking at [for Newton], is he the gym rat?” Davis said.

Davis said that Newton is a much better passer than Vince Young or Tim Tebow coming out of college.

Here’s how he ranked the QBs: Newton, Gabbert, Ryan Mallett, Jake Locker or Christian Ponder, Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernik
