Tim McCarver talks about radar guns, pitchers cheating

FOX baseball analyst Tim McCarver joined the show to talk about the big stories around the league.

McCarver actually does believe that Aroldis Chapman is throwing a legit 106 mph or at least close. Because he’s seen radar guns exagerate speeds, but not that much.

McCarver said overall speed is not the biggest deal. It’s late movement, like Bob Gibson had. and the ability to get your other pitches over the plate. McCarver said that Nolan Ryan had speed, but he couldn’t get his breaking pitch over the first part of his career.

McCarver also talked about spit balls. He said in the old days everyone knew pitchers did funny stuff, but it was OK with everyone. McCarver pointed to Gaylord Perry, who admitted it and is in the Hall of Fame.

Dan asked McCarver the story of the year so far. He actually pointed to the problems at Dodger Stadium and all the empty seats.
