Emmitt Smith can’t understand why Peyton waited to have surgery
Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith joined the show to talk about the upcoming NFL season and his new book “Game On.”
Smith had interesting comments on Colts quarterbackPeyton Manning. He cannot understand why Manning waiting so long to have neck surgery. “Cardinal Rule No. 1.: If you have surgery, you have to have it as soon as you can in the offseason,” Smith said.
Smith said running backs need about a week of “inside running drills” to be ready for the season. He thinks Chris Johnson will get into the swing of things quickly in Tennessee. Smith said the only concern is that health and can he adjust to the early-season heat.
Dan asked Smith if he thought Johnson was worth the money. “Without a doubt,” Smith said. But Smith said that he would give Larry Fitzgerald the money first.
Dan asked Smith if he could be the all-time leading rusher if he entered the league today. “I doubt it,” Smith said. “I don’t think I would have been first, second and third-down back. I think the real reason why is that they don’t have guys who could take the pounding. During our time we had to tote that rock.”
Dan asked him about critics who said that he was only the rushing king because of the situation he landed in. Smith said everyone is drafted into a situation. There’s nothing you can do. But Smith said all you have to do is look at the production.
