Dan Shaughnessy: Red Sox don’t deserve to reach the postseason

Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy joined the show to talk about the Red Sox’s swoon and their chances of advancing.

Shaughnessy said — possibly kiddingly — that MLB should kick the Red Sox out of the playoffs just because they’ve been so bad, even if they do get in.

Shaughnessy said that Peter Gammons’ comments that Terry Francona and Theo Epstein are at odd on our show most likely originated from the Boston front office. Shaughnessy thinks people want a manager who holds the players to a higher standard and demands accountability.

Dan asked Shaughnessy if the Yankees want to see the Red Sox or Rays down the road. “If you’re the Yankees, you want the Red Sox there as fast as possible,” Shaughnessy said.

Shaughnessy commented on John Lackey ripping the media for invading his privacy. Shaughnessy said that Lackey didn’t need to say anything, just because a gossip columnist called him. Shaughnessy said he unfairly lumped the gossip columnist in with the baseball media.
