Bob Costas’ NFL OT proposal, Tebow, Hall of Fame

NBC and MLB Netork analyst Bob Costas joined the show to talk about a variety of topics, including the NFL playoffs and the MLB Hall of Fame voting. Here are some of his takes:

— Costas would like to have a 10-minute overtime period in the NFL. “You would restore an element that’s now missing, which is the importance of the clock,” Costas said.

— Costas weighed in on Tim Tebow. “A lot of the interest in Tebow, it’s not necessarily about rooting for religion,” Costas said. “It’s rooting for a guy who doesn’t fit the mold.”

— Costas talked about the MLB Hall of Fame announcement today. “I think Barry Larkin will almost certainly get in,” Costas said.

Costas said next year’s ballot is jam-packed, so voters may think they have to get Larkin in now.

— Costas thinks next year we’ll find out about how voters view players linked to steroids. He said that guys like Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds who would have gotten in before they took steroids will be treated differently than a player they view as a player who succeeded because of PEDs.
