Tony Dungy: Eli one of “top two or three” QBs in NFL; says teams have contacted him for jobs
NBC NFL analyst Tony Dungy joined the show to talk about the NFL playoffs and more.
Dungy weighed in on Eli Manning and compared him to Peyton Manning.
“He’s not as vocal,” Dungy said. “But when I talked to him [this season], he actually sounds a lot like Peyton now. There’s no question he’s one of the top two or three quarterbacks playing right now.”
Dungy said he’d put Aaron Rodgers No. 1, then Drew Brees at No. 2. Then it’s Eli Manning and Tom Brady right there.
Dungy doesn’t think the Ravens are necessarily done. He thinks Ray Lewis and Ed Reed will return and that they’ve been close every year.
Dungy also weighed in on the 49ers. Dungy thinks they’re improving, but their offense isn’t there yet. “When you needed some throws,” Dungy said, “they just couldn’t make them. … Quarterbacking was definitely the difference in that game.”
Dungy also weighed in on the Colts’ coaching situation. He said owner Jim Irsay focuses on someone and goes with it. Dungy said he’s hearing what everyone else is hearing, that Jim Tressel has a chance to land the job.
Dan asked Dungy to weigh in on the report Chip Kelly was going to leave Oregon to take over the Bucs, but then decided not to go. Dungy’s son plays at Oregon. “I was pretty disappointed,” said Dungy of when he first thought Kelly was leaving.
Dan asked Dungy if he’s gotten any offers this offseason. “I have talked to a few people in the NFL,” Dungy said.
Dungy did say he thinks that if he made himself available, he probably would have some offers.
