Indy Star’s Chappell says Colts may not have enough info to keep Peyton come March
Indianapolis Star Colts reporter Mike Chappell joined the show to talk about the team hiring Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano.
Chappell said it’s been a busy offseason and more controversy is coming with the Peyton Manning decision.
“The decision is due March 8,” Chappell said. “By that time, I just don’t think Jim Irsay and the Colts are going to have enough information to say let’s invest $35 million.” Chappell explained that it’s not juts the $28 million option, it’s his base salary as well.
Chappell said that they could use a cap exception to help build the roster.
Chappell said from Peyton’s perspective, he should look for a situation like Kurt Warner found in Arizona. Somewhere where he can win.
Chappell, however, said never discount the impact Peyton has had in Indianapolis. “If Peyton Manning is not here, the Super Bowl is somewhere else,” Chappell said.
Chappell said that Jim Tressell never would have played with the fans. Columbus isn’t that far away. “The groundswell against Tressell was immense,” Chappell said.
