Mike Brown comments on LeBron, Westbrook and potential Gasol trade

Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike Brown joined the show to talk about the NBA Finals and more.

Dan asked Brown if he was rooting for his former player LeBron James. Brown said he’s definitely rooting for LeBron. “I wouldn’t be in this season right now if it wasn’t for him and other players,” Brown said.

Brown commented on what makes LeBron “What makes him spectacular is his size and the way he moves the basketball,” Brown said.

Brown also weighed in on Russell Westbrook. He said it’s OK he’s not a pass-first point guard. Brown said his explosiveness is a real problem, and he’s impressed with how much his jump shot has improved.

Dan asked Brown about reports the Lakers are trying to trade big man Pau Gasol. Brown said he’s not in position to know for sure, but he doesn’t think so.

“I believe Pau is here for the long term,” Brown said. “I know that I am — and I believe the organization is too — I’m extremely pleased with how Gasol played this year. … I thought Pau changed his game a little bit based on Andrew [Bynum’s] emergence.”

Dan asked Brown point blank if Gasol and Bynum will be on the court together on opening day. “I hope so,” Brown said, even though he acknowledged that the Lakers moved Lamar Odom to his surprise, so you never know.
