Tony La Russa says he felt ‘betrayal’ over Dusty Baker controversy

MLB executive Tony La Russa joined the show to talk about managing the All-Star Game and the criticism Dusty Baker had about his selections.

La Russa was upset Baker called him out for not taking more Reds on the roster. “I feel betrayed by him,” La Russa said. “Professionally is one thing. That was personal. … That was a knife in the back I don’t think I’ll forget.”

La Russa said that All-Star managers don’t have as much choice as you might think. And La Russa said that Baker should have known that because he’s managed the All-Star team.

La Russa said the Baker conversation sapped some of his energy for this week. “I’m going to enjoy the experience,” La Russa said. “I’m looking forward to being back in uniform.”
