Bob Costas weighs in on covering Olympics, Strasburg inning limit

NBC’s Bob Costas joined the show to talk about covering the Olympics and the big stories in baseball.

Costas said part of the appeal of the Olympics is that these athletes have one chance every four years and for many, one chance in a lifetime. That heightens the drama.

Costas addressed criticism that NBC favors America. He said maybe so to some extent, but not compared to some other countries, who are way more biased.

Costas said one challenge of interviewing athletes at the Olympics is that he can’t be critical. “No one wants to see you grill Gabby Douglas or Missy Franklin,” Costas said.

Costas also weighed in on Stephen Strasburg. “I just can’t see babying a guy to such extent it cost you a chance at the World Series,” Costas said.

Costas talked about Hard Knocks as well. He said that there are risks and rewards, and he can’t quite see why it’s worth it.
