Landon Donovan explains he will not replace Altidore
Now ESPN analyst Landon Donovan joined the show to talk about the World Cup.
Donovan said he is not jumping on a plane to head down to Brazil after the Jozy Altidore injury. “That’s not possible,” Donovan said.
Donovan said that he thought Jurgen Klinsmann did some good things and some questionable things yesterday. He did wonder if maybe there was some over-training because of the types of injuries.
Donovan is trying to take a positive approach to not being on the team, even though he felt he should have been on it. “I thought I did enough to make the team,” Donovan said.
Donovan said that he’s talked to a lot of other guys who didn’t make their teams and he’s learned a lot. “It’s given me some perspective,” Donovan said.
Donovan also weighed in on the upcoming Portugal match. He said a week ago he would have said Portugal. But he’s not sure after the way Portugal played against Germany and how they were so immature in melting down.
Donovan said it’s been challenging to be an analyst. “I think I’m working harder now than I did on the field,” Donovan said.
